Initially, the plan was to spin her off into a film based on the Gotham City Sirensconcept - Harley teaming up with Poison Ivy and Catwoman - with Suicide Squad director David Ayer slated to direct. The character was a break-out star in Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad and the studio wasted no time securing Robbie for more adventures as Harley, leading to a production deal. The new series sees Black Canary faced with a seemingly impossible extraction mission. The first issue will feature a main cover by Romero and variant covers by Artgerm, Chris Bachalo, Nick Bradshaw and Frank Cho. The creative team also includes colorist Jordie Bellaire and letterer Clayton Cowles. The new Birds of Prey series is written by Kelly Thompson and drawn by Leonardo Romero, who previously collaborated on Hawkeye at Marvel Comics.
